Celebrity food experts are calling Jicama the “Superfood of 2019” for its power to nourish from the inside out. We can’t help but agree! Here’s what these wellness warriors have to say:

Gwyneth Paltrow | Goop

After months of anticipation, Gwyneth Paltrow’s new cookbook, The Clean Plate: Eat, Reset, Heal, is finally here. Goop’s head boss had one core goal when creating her recipes – choose only the most nutrient-dense ingredients. Naturally, Jicama made the cut! Gwyneth also loves how it pairs with the bright flavors of cilantro, chili powder, cumin and lime juice.

Gwyneth also dropped by the Rachael Ray show to share one of her favorite new recipes from the cookbook – with Jicama as the star ingredient! Gwyneth calls Jicama an “insanely delicious and super versatile” superfood. We have no doubt this stamp of approval will give an extra boost to Jicama’s already fast-growing popularity.

Max Lugavere + Rachael Ray | Food Network

Max Lugavere, author of New York Times bestseller Genius Foods, was a featured guest on Rachael Ray just a few weeks after Gwyneth. He also talked about his favorite new superfood – you guessed it – Jicama. Max is well-known for writing about the connection between gut health and brain health – how the foods we choose can help us focus better every day and even help with dementia prevention as we age. Max loves jicama for it’s prebiotic fiber that’s essential to supporting a healthy gut.

Whitney Tingle + Danielle Duboise | Sakara

For Sakara Co-Founders Whitney Tingle + Danielle Duboise, Jicama has been as mainstay in their plant based meal programs. You can find this superfood ingredient in everything from a fresh take on your traditional fruit salad to a delicious stir fry. What is Jicama?

Jicama is a large, tuberous root vegetable that’s native to Mexico. It’s spread across warm climates in Central and South America, South Asia and the Caribbean. It grows on long vines and is part of the legume family – think chickpeas, soybeans and kidney beans. However, we don’t often think of Jicama as a legume because we only eat the root. The bean pods, flowers, leaves and skin of the plant are poisonous.

Jicama has a rough golden-brown skin resembling a turnip, but once you peel off the outer layer, the inside is starchy and creamy white like a water chestnut. It has a fresh, lightly sweet flavor that makes it a versatile favorite for both cooking and eating raw. Jicama is also commonly referred to as a Mexican potato, Mexican turnip and yam bean.

Raw Jicama is the core superfood ingredient of Xicama.

Xicama was created by Holistic Nutritionist and wellness educator, Mona Sharma. For over a decade, Mona has worked with clients and studied the connection between gut health and vitality. Having grown up with a family history of autoimmune disease, food was always at the forefront of healing. It wasn’t until Mona recovered from two heart surgeries, that she saw first hand the power of food to heal our bodies.

Jicama has been a staple food on the gut-restoring nutrition plans she creates for all of her clients – from athletes, to celebrities to CEOs.  Over the years, Mona has wanted to share the power of Jicama with an even more people. So she set out to do just that. Her mission for Xicama is to create a line of functional food products that deliver the gut + immune boosting benefits of Jicama.
